"Silver Sadness" is a song by Ängie in collaboration with Harrison First on their debut full-length album Not Pushing Daisies as the lead single and tenth track. It was released on May 29th, 2020, along with its music video.

Background[]

Ängie played this song for the first time in a live-stream on April 2020, where she shared multiple other upcoming songs. She didn't say anything about it other than that it's on her album with Harrison. Most of the lyrics were inaudible because of the low video quality.

Ängie revealed the title of the song in her Instagram on May 15th, with a picture of a part of the lyrics after she had hinted a few days before that the lead single of her album would have the word "Silver" in it.

The music video for the song was shot and edited in a span of four days, directed by Ängie's fiancé Pussel Widegren and shot by her friend Natasa Slisket.

The song was one of the last tracks to be produced for the album. In a live-stream, Harrison said that in the day the song was recorded, he wanted to do a trap-influenced track that could be popular on TikTok, and although she was reluctant with this idea, she said that they could do that as long as the lyrics were deep since she wanted to tell a sad story. After the tune was done, she and Harrison knew it was the perfect lead single for the album.

Theme[]

The song is from the perspective of someone who's been heartbroken, remembering about her lover while she's walking home and crying. The name comes from the color of your tears when the sun reflects on them. In an Instagram DM with her fans, Ängie said: "Like tears in the sunlight an early morning after getting my heart broken out of memories of a fallen lover, my sadness is glimmering like tiny silver rhinestones".[1]

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Yet again, all alone, at the train station
Fucking sick of myself and my fucked passions
You ruined me then and you ruin me now
Can let go, I just don't know how

[Pre-Chorus]
Singing out loud on my way home, high
Always thinking about you, silver sadness
I’m obsessing over you, golden madness

[Chorus]
Singing out loud on my way home, high
Trees are blooming and my feet are tired
Singing out loud on my way home, high
Trees are blooming and my feet are tired

[Verse 2]
I'm a mess cause of you, I'm pathetic
Crying over you is my whole damn aesthetic
You fuck me up sober and you fuck me up fucked
Eyes red from the joints always puffed

[Pre-Chorus]
Singing out loud on my way home, high
Always thinking about you, silver sadness
I’m obsessing over you, golden madness
[Chorus]
Singing out loud on my way home, high
Trees are blooming and my feet are tired
Singing out loud on my way home, high
Trees are blooming and my feet are tired

[Outro]
Always thinking about you, silver sadness
I'm obsessing over you, golden madness
Singing out loud on my way home, high
