"Dreaming Of Paris" is song by Ängie produced by Harrison First, released on November 5th, 2021 as the second single for their second studio album, Follow The White Rabbit.

Background

Ängie wrote the song by herself on July 7th, 2021, and recorded it in a session with Harrison First a day after, during which she did a brief livestream where she played snippets of the song while it was being produced.[1]

After the session, Ängie mentioned the song multiple times on her Instagram, especially its title.

In two concerts on October, Ängie performed the song live, and on Zound Stage she mentioned the song is going to be one of the first singles from her new album.

Five days before the release of the song, Ängie announced it on Instagram, saying the song is very close to her heart, about a very special person. "I wrote this song 4 AM in the morning, alone at my window. I was very drunk and very confused about how life takes its turns. I really hope you are gonna love it as much as I do." - said Ängie.[2]

Theme

The song is about the thrill of a new and exciting relationship. Ängie talks about being obsessed with this new person, and flips around the imagery of Paris, which is seen as a romantic city, showing that though she is falling, her love is not the "normal" type.

In an interview for Teez FM, Harrison talked about the song: "Dreaming of Paris is an experience in Paris that feels like a dark fantasy. The story has some very descriptive and graphic points but it’s good to let the listener use their imagination. Instead of going with the typical romanticised approach of songs in Paris, I wanted to create something that felt sonically edgy to match the details of the songwriting and one that creates some contrast from the title of the song."[3]

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
You said "look out the ocean my dear"
Reflection in neon appeared
I said "I love you, I feel like I'm home"
You said "it will disappear"
I sit on your lap feeling like I'll explode
Hand shivering out of fear

[Pre-Chorus]
But I hold you so tight thinking it'd be alright
If our love would just be a beautiful fight

[Chorus]
Dreaming of Paris
And dreaming of love
Dreaming of passion
Let me violate her
Like we're dreaming of Paris
And dreaming of love
Dreaming of passion
Let me violate her

[Verse 2]
Red wine, cigarretes and your body
Your sex is making me feel like a nervous wreck
Your eyes and your smile is too pretty I guess
It's making my pussy so fucking wet
I guess it's about time to call me obsessed
When all I can think of is your dirty bed

[Pre-Chorus]
I'm thinking about you all the fucking time
All I want is you to be mine

[Chorus]
Like we're dreaming of Paris
And dreaming of love
Dreaming of passion
Let me violate her
Like we're dreaming of Paris
And dreaming of love
Dreaming of passion
Let me violate her

[Verse 3]
I check my phone every hour and hope
That you might've sent me a text
I know I am foolish, I know I should know
There's plenty of bitches to text (Yeah)
I want you to want me like I want you
So I'll keep my dumb eyes on your check
Your love is to money
I want nothing more
I'll be rich if you call me yours

[Bridge]
Yours
Yours

[Chorus]
Like we're dreaming of Paris
And dreaming of love
Dreaming of passion
Let me violate her
Like we're dreaming of Paris
And dreaming of love
Dreaming of passion
Let me violate her

[Outro]
Let me violate her
Let me violate her
Let me violate her
Let me violate her
Oh, oh
(Okay, great)

Trivia

  • The song is speculated to be about Ola Rapace, since they travelled to Paris together and were already in a relationship when she wrote the song. She also mentions being in a boat in the ocean in the song, and they did this on their time on the show Behandlingen.
  • This is the last song Ängie wrote for this album, since all the other songs on the tracklist were made before her time on Behandlingen.
