"Cherry Psycho" is a song by Ängie produced by Harrison First. It is the fourth track from their second studio album, Follow The White Rabbit.

Background

Ängie and Harrison recorded the song on her apartment in a session for their second album, on April 11th, 2021, and made a livestream on Instagram showing the process.[1] On April 16th, they did another livestream recording "Let It Run" and working on the production for "Cherry Psycho" again.[2] On April 19th, Harrison posted a snippet of the song on his Twitter saying he thinks the record was turning into a "rock album".[3]

In the following months, Ängie quoted the song many times on various Instagram captions, teasing the new project, and the title was included in two lists that she posted on photos on Instagram, probably figuring out the tracklist of the album.[4] A few days after posting those pictures, Ängie performed the song for the first time on August 19th at the World Pride 2021 Under The Rainbow concert, where she also performed other two unreleased songs.

On September 17th, 2021, Ängie and Harrison shot the music video for the song, confirming that it was in fact the lead single for their second album. On the next day, Harrison tweeted he was going to play a snippet of the song on his Discord channel once he reached 1K followers on his new Instagram account, and had some BTS photos of the video shoot attached to the tweet.[5]

One day after the release of the album, a surprise music video for the song dropped, on November 19th, 2021. The music video was recorded at the same time and place as "Violent Love", and both follow the same theme of Ängie and Harrison being cult leaders.

Theme

"Cherry Psycho" continues to follow one of the major themes of the album, which is Ängie's obsessive nature, as told by her in the lyrics. In this particular song, she fixates on the idea she has something wrong and brutal inside of her that is always lewrking to come out, but she knows that her partner knows and likes this part of her.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I got this hunger, I can't get rid of
It's in my bones, sir
It's on my skin
I got this hunger, It needs to be touched
It's in my soul, sir
It's deep within, yeah

[Pre-Chorus]
Because I spit fire, spit fire
Snake in the grass
Waiting to bite you
I'm coming real fast
Barbed wire, barbed wire round your neck
Pretty but deadly, I got that effect

[Chorus]
I'm your cherry, cherry, cherry psycho
The taste of cherries leave your skin ice cold
I'm your cherry, cherry, cherry psycho
You know I'm crazy and that's why you won't go
I'm your cherry, cherry, cherry psycho
The taste of cherries leave your skin ice cold
I'm your cherry, cherry, cherry psycho
You know I'm crazy and that's why you won't go

[Post-Chorus]
Won't go (x4)

[Verse 2]
I got this craving, I can't get rid of
A bullet hole, sir
Needs to be filled
I got this longing to fulfill
Don't know what's wrong, sir
In for the kill, yeah

[Pre-Chorus]
Because I'm dreaming about you
Almost every night
I want to give in but I hold on so tight
Desire, desire, makes my head spin
I can't decide if I let my toughts win

[Chorus]
I'm your cherry, cherry, cherry psycho
The taste of cherries leave your skin ice cold
I'm your cherry, cherry, cherry psycho
You know I'm crazy and that's why you won't go
I'm your cherry, cherry, cherry psycho
The taste of cherries leave your skin ice cold
I'm your cherry, cherry, cherry psycho
You know I'm crazy and that's why you won't go

[Post-Chorus]
Won't go (x4)
